Photodynamic Therapy

Rawlins, WY

Photodynamic therapy is a treatment that is used to treat acne and reduce the appearance of acne scars. Photodynamic therapy uses a photosensitizing agent which is a special solution applied to the skin that is activated by a specific wavelength of light, which "turns it on." This light is called BLU-U light which is specifically targeting the acne organisms. A topical photosensitizing medication is placed on the skin and the BLU-U light treatment facilities the destruction of the organism. A few sessions in 2-3 week intervals are usually necessary for clearing acne and acne scarring.

Post-treatment care

Once you have had your treatment, it is important to stay inside for the next 48 hours. Your skin is still sensitive to the light, so at this time, your skin is especially sensitive and may leave you with burns on your face. After the treatment, you can expect that your skin will be red, dry and can even peel. All of these are normal, and usually recede within a week. Call us today to schedule an appointment!
